RE: Attic Fire
Date: December 22, 2025
On Monday evening December 22, 2025, Sun Prairie Fire & EMS responded to the report of a multi-family residential fire in the 500 block of Athletic Way (City of Sun Prairie).
A command unit along with Station One Engine was first on the scene reporting light smoke coming from the ridge vent of the building. An additional engine from Station Two arrived within 1 minute and an offensive operation was initiated. A still box alarm was pulled for additional apparatus and personnel based on an unconfirmed report of extension into the attic space and several animals unaccounted for.
Additional units arrived on stage consisting of 1 ladder and a mutual aid engine.
The first-in-engine advanced a hose line into the building to the second floor and made a quick knock-down of the fire in the attic using a water can within 5 minutes. The second-due engine performed search of the affected apartments. Fire was knocked down and completely under control within 15 minutes. Extensive overhaul of the attic space was completed. All-clear of the building was made, and all animals were accounted for and returned to the homeowner.
Initial damage reports to the structure of approximately $20,000 and $10,000 for building contents. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
Sun Prairie EMS (SPEMS) provided medical support. Madison Fire Department (MFD) provided an engine.
One resident was displaced because of the fire and was assisted in relocating to a family residence nearby.
No civilians or Public Safety personnel injuries were reported in this response.
